CP trains and Lisbon Metro hit by strikes on October 30: how to get a refund or change your ticket

CP, Portugal’s national rail operator, expects disruption on Friday, October 30, due to a strike by train conductors and ticket office staff. Disruptions are also possible on October 29 and 31. Lisbon Metro will face partial strike action on the mornings of October 28 and 30, from 5 am to 10 am, The Portugal News reports.

The CP strike was called by SFRCI, the union representing train conductors. Workers are demanding higher allowances to compensate for rising housing, food and energy costs. Lisbon Metro staff are protesting staff shortages and excessive overtime. An arbitration court will determine the minimum level of service to be maintained.

Passengers holding tickets for Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, Internacional, InterRegional and Regional services on the affected dates can claim a full refund or change their ticket free of charge to another train in the same category and class.
Digital tickets can be refunded or exchanged via the CP website, under Pós-Venda, or through the app, under As minhas viagens, up to 15 minutes before departure. At ticket offices, refunds and exchanges are possible for up to 10 days after the strike.

Ticket office staff are also striking on October 30, so it is best to handle refunds and exchanges online or on another day. If travelling around Lisbon on the mornings of October 28 and 30, allow extra time for your journey.
