Staff at AIMA, Portugal’s migration agency, will go on a nationwide 24-hour strike on October 6. The strike was called by STM, the union representing migration service employees.
The union is calling for a dedicated career structure for AIMA staff, along with an additional allowance to reflect the complexity of their work. The Interior Ministry recently promised similar allowances to PSP police officers and GNR personnel involved in border control.
STM requested a meeting with Secretary of State for Migration Rui Armindo Freitas, but says it received no response.
If you have an appointment with AIMA on October 6, it is worth checking in advance whether it will still go ahead.
